Homes For Our Troops Event Update
I'm a big believer that things happen for a reason. Perhaps that is why I paid special attention the day Marge from the Walled Lake VFW stopped by to tell us about Casimir (Cas) Werda from Novi who had been blinded while serving our country in Iraq. Cas is the first Michigan veteran to receive assistance from Homes For Our Troops. Marge stopped by to inquire about a door prize, but our team soon decided we wanted to do something more and decided to host an event at our store to raise funds toward Cas' furniture.

Before long we met with Dan Higgins who heads up the volunteer efforts in Michigan for Homes For Our Troops. Dan has worked for years raising funds for the organization...now he has three Michigan veterans who will soon receive support.

Our "little" event seemed to be growing each day. It was so exciting to see the community coming together to support our local hero. On Saturday morning, April 26, it was thrilling to have 40 members of the Motor City Harley Owners Group stop by during their training ride to kick off our event. Cas and his Dad Greg are members of the group.

I'm pictured here with Ed Keith who is a great guy and one of the group's organizers.

We lost count of how many people were here that day to support Cas. There were many special presentations including those from:

* US Congressman Thaddeus McCotter
* State Senator Nancy Cassis
* State Representative Craig DeRoche
* Oakland County Executive Brooks Patterson
* Chairman, Oakland County Commissioners Bill Bullard
* Vice Chair, Oakland County Commissioners Hugh Crawford
* Former Novi Mayor Lou Csordas
* Walled Lake Mayor Pro-Tem Monica Lesnau
* Novi High School Principal John Lawrence
* Novi High School Head Football Coach Tab Kellepourey
* Walled Lake seventh grader Nate Mara who collected thousands of letters of support for the troops
* Homes For Our Troops Volunteer Chairperson, Dan Higgins

The photo below is of Cas and me as we started the program.

Thanks also to the following people who helped make the day extra special, including:
* My special friend Lynne Paul for helping to coordinate the event
* Members of the Walled Lake and Novi Lions Clubs who donated and grilled hot dogs
* Members of the Custodians of Rock and Roll (C.O.R.R.) band who donated their time to play during the event
* Brittney, Mike and Mike from Novi High School who played their guitars and sang
* Casey Ambrose of Casey's Bar and Grill in Walled Lake for providing sandwhiches and lots of support
* Danny Isbania from The Liquor Station in Walled Lake for the soft drinks, water and ice
* TGIF of Novi for the yummy appetizers
* The Novi cable station (SWOCC) who taped the program and will provide Cas with a DVD to remember the day
* My staff and all of our wonderful friends who volunteered for the day
*Numerous local businesses for their generous door prize donations...Style Salon, Shiro restaurant, Outback Steakhouse, Sheraton Hotels, Staybridge Suites in Novi and many others.

We raised enough money that day to help Cas furnish his family room. I believe he will find his new furniture comfortable and hopefully serve as a reminder that he is surrounded by a caring community.

Designer's Pick of the Week
Each week one of our designers will choose a special piece from our showroom as her Pick of the Week. We will introduce the item right here on our Blog so you can learn a little bit more about the unique furniture and accessories we carry.

This week Klava chose two sofas from Bentley Churchill to show the company's attention to details and high quality in two very different looks.

What Klava likes about the sofas is the high quality, perfect alignment of seams, pleats and nail heads and that the pillows and all cushions are full and luxurious.

The leopard print trim on this sofa (above) is full of personality, yet is soft enough to blend with the other decor in the room. This sofa and room group were just reduced to 50% off and are a final sale to make room for some new pieces we are going to order at the High Point furniture market in a few weeks. Sofa is $4,348 and chair is $1,440.

This clean-lined taupe sofa with side lounger is accented with spa blue pillows for a casual, stylish look. This special piece retails for $8040, but was just priced at $4,020 to make more room for a new delivery.

Both of these exceptional pieces represent high quality and designer details that will bring an elegance and comfort to your room.

Spring is About Shopping for New Products and New Outdoor Furniture
Thoughts of comfortable shoes for the High Point furniture market in North Carolina are definitely on my shopping list for this spring. It's always so exciting to see the new introductions that the manufacturers present in their showrooms each April.

Somehow the warm and sunny North Carolina skies seem to motivate the buyers and store owners to want to bring a piece of that excitement back to their showrooms.

In part, I will be looking for some new artwork, casual dining and whatever outstanding products are presented that offer a special value to my customers.

I also am excited about adding a great line of outdoor furniture to the store. Woodard Furniture is a 130-year-old Michigan company that manufactures outdoor furniture that is so beautiful it will bring a special elegance to your patio or deck.

Each piece in the CLASSICS collection is hand-formed using solid wrought iron stock - the heaviest available. The ALUMINUM collection represents Woodard's trademark of excellence and the highest grade of aluminum available. The ALL SEASONS collection of outdoor wicker is the latest addition to the product offering and is a combination of resilient, weather-resistant materials hand woven over an aluminum frame. All of the collections offer a wide variety of frame finishes that seal in Woodard quality while providing color and fabric choices to suit any taste.

We will have some special pieces at our store soon and our design team would be happy to help you make a selection that will best meet your outdoor needs. Feel good about supporting a Michigan furniture maker and take a look at Woodard's beautiful product line. Keep in mind delivery takes about four weeks.
